From the Ball Book of Home Preserving

10 lemons--5 juiced, the other 5 in quarters
4 cinnamon sticks
1/2 cup salt--no iodine in this salt!
8 bay leaves
2 tsps. whole black peppercorns

Toss the lemon quarters in the salt.
Then divide everything between 2 quart jars (sterilized before you load them), including the salt left over from tossing the lemons in salt.
Fill to within half-inch of top of jar.
Put lid on and ring. Close finger-tip tight. Shake up and then place in dark spot or in brown bag. Turn jars upside-down once per day to redistribute salt.

21-Day Meditation Challenge

This seemed like a good thought for the day.

I have not mentioned this on the podcast, but I recently found on Facebook an invitation to join the 21 Day Meditation Challenge, hosted by Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra. Today, March 11, 2013, is the first day of the challenge.

As part of this challenge, the hosts are sending us very interesting articles concerning meditation and the true self, among other topics. Here is one of today's articles: How to Tell Your True Self from Your Everyday Self.

I really like the list at the end of the first page that basically shows how the True Self stays oriented in happiness at all times, while the Everyday Self is much more emotionally "fluttery".

I especially like this paragraph:
"Look at the qualities of the true self: self-reliant, evolutionary, loving, creative, knowing, accepting and peaceful. Whenever anyone is in crisis, whether the problem is a troubled marriage or difficulties at work or over money, they will make the best decisions if they utilize these qualities."

For more on this meditation challenge, you can go here. And you can join at any time!

Out-Takes: The Blue Episode

Savvy Girl Melanie had a tough time coping with poor grammar and spelling at Stitches West.

Yes, it is the legendary Dead Elvis doughnut: doughnut, custard, peanut butter and jelly, banana and bacon. Thanks to the Knitmores for teaching me to revere this suicidal piece of indulgence.

In which Gemma screws up names, podcasters AbbyKnits, SavvyGirl Melanie, Dr Gemma, and Laura the food blogger all point microphones at each other and jabber, Melanie sings most enchantingly, and Gemma and Melanie wander the length of the 101, most blue-ly.
