I have a YouTube channel "Doctor Gemma". Flash tips (1 minute or less) around surviving the pandemic and longer strategy discussions.
Buy Dr Gemma a Ko-Fi, if you're enjoying the podcast and feeling up to it. Remember that I am still working, though, so feel free to give the money to a charity instead.
I will NOT add you to any of my follower groups currently, due to robo-accounts. Please follow me here. You can contact me through our group on Ravelry or on this blog.

Simplicity 8863 (1996): Hearts
In Progress:
Stash toss 2023 (4 in versus 33 out)
Fabrics!
Sewing machine, matching threads, wound bobbins, 2 strips of half-inch elastic.
2.5 yards fabric— cotton for spring, eyelet for petticoats, flannel for cooler weather.
1. Cut 2 rectangles (use the fold): 21/42 x 39
2. Pin right sides together; seam each 39” edge to each other (2 seams).
3. Keep inside out. Fold top 1/4 inch over and iron down.
4. Fold top 1.75” down; iron and then pin down.
5. Sew as close to bottom edge of this fold as you can, sewing through the quarter inch folded under and the fabric facing you. (Seam #3). Now you have a casing for your waistband elastic.
6. On the casing waistband, sew another seam 0.75” down from the top. (Seam #4). Now you have 2 channels in your waistband to run elastic through for your waistband.
7. Work 2 strips of elastic through these channels. Each strip is (length of your waist plus 1” long.) You can open a hole to insert the elastic by using a seam ripper on the inside seam carefully of your waistband. You should only pull out 2 or 3 stitches where they cannot be seen. You can hand-stitch this in a few seconds to close AFTER your elastic is in. (Or use the Simplicity method, which is easier.) Sew the ends of the elastic together to fit your own waist and snip off excess.
8. Hem (seam #5). I like to fold the raw edge under for a half inch and iron down, then roll that under a half inch and pin it. Then I sew my seam through both thicknesses.
You can layer these skirts, add pretty edgings, and also add tucks to reduce length or just measured finished skirt against yourself and determine a shorter length and cut to that length. These come out just above my ankles.
Blueberry Who Socks: and we are on to sock #2!
Lanesplitter Skirt- I’ve turned the first corner and I’m on the straight-away--32 inches along!
Don't Know Yet--a year in blocks-- onward! Seaming experiment:
19 x 19 blocks!
18(19) squares=361 squares. And extras
Arranged, photographed, and clipped. Rows 1-17 sewn together, ends woven. Row 17 is now clipped to the body of the blanket and getting its long edge seamed. Row 18 has its short edges seamed. That’s 304 (84%] blocks out of 361 done!

Lady Eleanor Shawl-- The Next Big Thing. Progress in middle of skein 7/11. 32” long so far.
